NB: IT IS IMPORTANT TO CAREFULLY FOLLOW THE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE INSIDE THE SAFE T SLEEP BABYWRAP PRODUCT PACKAGING.
1. Wrap the Safe T Sleep® Sleepwrap® tightly around a good quality mattress.
The tighter that the main wrap is around the mattress, the more flexibility there will be for baby in the 'baby wrap' part and the better the Sleepwrap will work.
It is helpful to tighten this main mattress wrap part before each sleep.
NB: TIGHT AROUND THE MATTRESS BUT NEVER TIGHT AROUND BABY, JUST 'SNUG' AROUND BABY. ALLOW A FLAT HAND TO BE PLACED BETWEEN THE BABY'S TUMMY AND THE 'BABY WRAP' PART.
NB: Safe T Sleep Sleepwrap will fit over any traditional or modern swaddles, babywraps and over any sleep wear. It may also be used on its own over just a nappy in very hot climates.
2. BACK SLEEPING
To help ensure the back sleeping position comfortably wrap one side of the 'baby wrap' part around the baby's torso right up underneath the armpits.
Bring up the leg piece and place on top.
Close the second 'baby wrap' part.
Remember to turn your baby's head to alternate sides at each sleep, if your baby is back-sleeping.
The little Safe T Sleep MULTIwedge helps to stabilise the head position and also reminds parents which side they last turned baby’s head to.
Simply slide the MULTIwedge WELL underneath the mattress wrap part of the Sleepwrap as in the images.
3. SWADDLING AND SAFE T SLEEP
When back sleeping some parents choose to swaddle arms down. With this preference ensure the Sleepwrap is ‘snug’ and firm to prevent baby slipping out of the Sleepwrap. Not very tight or too loose.
We recommend ‘arms up’ swaddling.
NB: Enquire about Safe T Sleep’s newly edited book called ‘Baby Wisdom’ which includes diagrams and details on different swaddling techniques.
When side-sleeping ensure baby's underarm and shoulder is placed forward and follow the simple product instructions above, which are also enclosed with the actual product.
When side-sleeping definitely ensure that baby's arms are gently wrapped or placed up high across the chest not arms down.
Arms up swaddling helps prevent baby turning face down and arms up also opens up baby’s rib cage for easier breathing.
Then simply place the 'baby wrap' part of the Sleepwrap over swaddling, wrap, sleeping bag or whatever sleepwear baby is wearing.
The little Safe T Sleep MULTIwedge may be placed behind baby's back away from hands and face when side-sleeping.
Alternate baby's sleep position at each sleep to help ensure a nice head shape.
4. BACK OR SIDE SLEEPING
When using traditional or modern swaddling products or a well-designed safety featured sleeping bag (see ‘NEW’ below) you may use the Sleepwrap leg piece or you can simply tuck the leg piece away underneath the mattress wrap part of the Sleepwrap.
NB: an older baby who is out of the high risk period and learning to turn may be taught to turn within the Sleepwrap and sleep in their desired sleep positions.
