13. Can I use the Safe T Sleep™ Sleepwrap® in conjunction with a baby sleeping bag product? If used together, will my baby be too hot?

We do know of many Parents and Caregivers who do use any commercial type of sleeping bag and the Sleepwrap® products together and have found it to be satisfactory. In many ways it is safer to use a Sleepwrap® when using a sleeping bag because:
1.  When in just a sleeping bag alone some babies are still able to stand and topple, tripping on the sewn up part at the bottom of the bag.
2.  Some babies are still able to creep forwards and downwards with the imminent possibility of the danger of positional asphyxia and/or suffocation. Ref: NZ.MED J 2002; 115: 193-4.
3.  Also some babies can still turn over on to their tummies which is considered high risk according to current SIDS (cot death) - prevention advice.
4. Some babies/toddlers in just a sleeping bag alone can still roll off a bed.

Many people therefore use the combination of sleeping bags with the Safe T Sleep™ Sleepwraps® in order to keep babies from birth to four years old even safer and cosier. To check if babies are overheating, pediatricians tell us to feel the baby’s back and the neck, and to look at the baby’s colour. If red and sweaty, they are likely to be too hot. Also trust your instincts; and be aware of your own temperature. Also check the ‘tog’ rating of the sleeping bag. This measures the breath-ability of the fabric. Ensure it is highly breathable, preferably natural fabric. The special weave tested Safe T Sleep™ Sleepwrap® products have been tog rated at 0.27, totally just one tog when wrapped around baby’s chest which means it is extremely breathable making it very suitable for tiny babies, and also especially in very hot climates.
